Berlin, Germany– On August 25, 2016 the large ZEISS planetarium in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district reopened, following extensive renovation work and upgrades with Digistar and Zeiss technology. The work aims to show the miracles of the cosmos better and to redefine the planetarium as a science theater. The combination of a new star projector with a high-resolution fulldome projection sets standards in terms of technology and content across Europe.

The centerpiece of the refurbishment is a Zeiss/Digistar 6 hybrid planetarium, comprising a video projection system complete with ten Zeiss velvet high contrast projectors for full-dome projection. The 10-channel Digistar system connects to the Zeiss projectors to create a beautiful fulldome interactive display and E&S provided its proprietary auto-alignment and auto-blending system that will keep the projection system aligned and looking its best for many years to come.

Tim Florian Horn, Director, Zeiss-Großplanetarium: “As one of Europe’s largest planetariums, people around the world have high expectations from us. We needed a robust set of tools to create content and give live astronomical shows. With Digistar we have those tools as well as linking to an extensive and active community who share content. The domecasting feature of Digistar will allow us to broadcast our live shows to others in Germany as well as around the globe.”

Scott Niskach, E&S Director of International Sales: “Zeiss-Großplanetarium is reenergizing a landmark facility with new equipment and highly qualified staff. This team will be creating exciting and educational content. We are proud that the Digistar will be the set of tools they will use to bring these stories to life.”
